Frequently Asked Questions

Our programs

We offer Activate, Build, Control, Refine, Ignite, Core, Release, Connect and Partner. Each program has a different focus but all designed for the arm and hand after stroke.

Each program is set out with side-specific and followable instructional videos, where you get to learn, practice, and then complete the activities as it happens. You can pause, rewind and redo at the pace that suits you.

For 6 days a week, you will be given a set of activities you can do at home.

Each program runs for 6 weeks.

Absolutely! In fact, we know that repetition and practice make a big difference for neuroplasticity. Once the video has been released, you can watch it as many times as you like during your program.

Yes absolutely. In fact, 30 min of activities a day is a what we generally recommend and a blend of different areas to target will optimise neuroplasticity.

Typically, face-to-face physiotherapy occur once or twice a week where the physiotherapist assesses and treats you at a clinic. At the end of that session, you will normally get a few exercises to practice at home until the next session.

Think of GliaMoves as your daily personalised therapy where you are guided through an exercise set each day. Every day is a bit different, challenging you in novel ways and always working towards your goals. Research shows targeted repetition and intensive practice are key ingredients for recovery.

Yes, absolutely. We encourage you to continue what you are doing if that’s working for you and use our programs as an adjunct.

We completely understand it is a bit scary committing to 6 weeks of training. We also know that forging new neural pathways and physiological changes really do take time. Send us an email at hello@gliamoves.com if you would like to discuss a shorter program and we will see what we can do!

This varies as each stroke survivor will have different tolerances to the exercises. Generally, the recommended time to spend on practising is 30 minutes per day, 6 days per week. You can repeat each session as many times as your body can comfortably manage. Sometimes, you may need to start slowly and build up. Let us know if you need some help to work through this.

Every now and then you will see that there is a waitlist to join the program. As we are not an off-the-shelf product and with real humans behind each personalised video session, sometimes we limit the number of new participants so that we can focus on delivering the best possible care to each stroke survivor. Send us an email at hello@gliamoves.com and we will let you know our approximate waiting time for your particular program!

Once you have enrolled in one of our programs, you will be given details on how to contact your assigned coach. You can schedule coaching sessions and email any questions through directly.

Our programs have been designed by an experienced professional and have been tested with real people after stroke. While results between individuals will vary, we do our best to design programs that makes a difference to what you feel you can do for yourself, whether it is your confidence, your skills or your physical comfort or body part. Please be sure to seek medical attention if you are unsure whether these programs are suitable for you.

Glia Moves is available worldwide except the United States of America. We are actively working towards bringing this to those who live in the U.S. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Coaching

Yes, we do! The one-on-one consultations are optional extras to the GliaMoves programs and are available to assist you in getting the most out of the program. Please go to our coaching page to find out more.

The coaching sessions is like a check-in call with your coach. You will log into a video-call with your coach at the scheduled time. Your coach will take a look at your progress, answer any questions you may have and give you advice or tips to help you achieve your goals.

At the initial coaching session, your coach will look at your enrolment form and supporting material and having a virtual call with you to look at what you can do, work out which programs are most suited and what order to do them in for best results.

If you choose to include coaching sessions on your program, your coach will be able to check on your progress over the program. The coach can offer you advice, accountability, and positive encouragement along the way and any other support you need to help you achieve your desired state. If this is the first time completing our programs, it is usually worthwhile having a few of these check in points.

You can book in for our coaching sessions on the coaching page.

A single coaching session is $30. If you purchase more than one with your program, the cost per session goes down.

Each session runs for approximately 30 minutes.

Access and logins

You will get an email from us with a link to an enrolment form. Here, we ask you a few more questions and you upload a few videos. This helps us to understand your movement patterns, challenges and goals. Our neurological physiotherapist will review this information to design your program.

Upon purchasing of your program, you will be provided with a private login and password that allows you to access your Glia Dashboard. On the dashboard you will be able to see the programs you have purchased and access them directly from there.

The short answer is no, you will 6 videos per week, and each will be available to you at the beginning of each week. The reason we do this is to ensure we can tweak the following week based on your feedback (if any) and make it as personalised as possible.

You will have 12-month access to your purchased programs – so even if something unexpected happens you will be able to go back and pick up from where you left off.

Like a good book, you can revisit and rewatch your programs and gain new insights and even achieve more than the first time because you may become more familiar and able to complete the activities. This is a terrific sign of your brain learning and relearning.

All NDIS supports, including GliaMoves, need to meet all reasonable and necessary criteria set. Here are some points that may help you decide.

GliaMoves programs are online products and disability-specific programs, focussed on functional skills used as part of everyday living. They are designed for people with a disability after stroke to promote independence, capacity and skills in self-management. This means, the design of our programs commonly meets NDIS participant goals that relate to improving their ability to do daily activities and improving independence at home and in the community (dressing, bathing, writing, typing, shopping, fine motor skills).

The program also increases the ability of the person to be more confident and able to participate socially and economically, which is linked to arm and hand function.

Finally, many stroke survivors who experience fatigue will benefit from having therapy in the home, at the time and intensity they choose, without needing to travel and fit into a clinic appointment slot.

GliaMoves programs represent significant value for money. Each recorded session on the program is delivered by an AHPRA registered physiotherapist and designed based on your goals. Compared to the cost of usual one-on-one therapy supports, GliaMoves is exceptional value for money with each session (30 minutes) being less than $12. In addition, these supports are provided in a format that is accessible, easy to follow and a 12-month access to give you a high value for money assistive technology product.

Pricing & funding

The programs cost USD$299 for a 6-week program, available as a one-off purchase with 12-month access. This means that once you buy it you will be able to watch and rewatch it again over a year, helping you to continue to practice and refine your skills.
